A lovely Beauty

Just a little preview of what we were up to for Valentines Day.  Remember this is what you are paying for when you order flowers.  The design, the vision and the beauty of the way a floral designer can interpret the natural beauty of flowers.

A whole lot of my customer’s planned ahead this year and I’m happy to say that we were completely sold out by Monday morning on Valentines Day.  We struggled to find more flowers to sell and were  saddened by the fact that no one kept extended hours or had much product available.  It was one of those years for us, where if we didn’t pre-order it, we couldn’t buy it.

I felt bad for so many who called and I  couldn’t help them out, and it was really something to see 5 guys in the shop asking each other who was going to get the last three dozen roses we had for sale.

It is truly so hard to judge how much product to buy each year.  But overall as you can see we had fun ( in a weird way ) turning out a “whole lotta love”  in the studio.

Simple clean lines with a bit of wow!

Little bit of exotic love

So in love!

Cool & Modern!

Can you imagine my surprise today when someone called the flower shop asking me for Duct Tape flowers.  I had no clue what a duct tape flower was.  I was trying to decide just exactly what the customer wanted.  At first I thought maybe she wanted them in a box sealed with duct tape.  But when she said they were duct taped flowers, I thought maybe she wanted them wrapped on the stems with duct tape.  The customer told me that Teleflora was promoting them and since I was a Teleflora shop I should know what duct taped flowers were.

So I decided I must be out of the loop, I had no clue what the customer was asking for, but thanks, once again Google enlightened me.  So I’ve attached a video for all of the florists out there that might not have a clue either, just so we can all get with it!

Can someone tell me,  is Teleflora really doing a promotion with Duct Tape Flowers?  LOL!

Don’t forget to register for the upcoming wedding event at Clise Mansion and Robinswood.  It’s this weekend, & I did deliver some beautiful flowers there today for brides to preview and get an idea of our style.  Unfortunately I won’t be there to meet & greet due to the volume of work with Valentines Day, but I am really looking forward to meeting many new prospective brides for the upcoming wedding season.   You will have an opportunity to enjoy some fantastic food by some of the best caterers in the area.  It’s an event that you really don’t want to miss.  Hope you enjoy!

Just a quick update to say that the flowers arrived today and they look absolutely beautiful!  No damage & I love my Federal Express drivers!   They were amazing at scoping out the situation and finding my product and coming through for me!  I just wanted to hug my driver today.   They even sent a private car out to our store loaded with my product.  I think that is  above and beyond the call of duty and amazing service!

Last night after reading the Fed Ex guarantee I was mad as heck because they weren’t making any guarantees on international shipments due to weather.  I really felt like they were trying to shrug off responsibility and it made me angry.  Imagine if you ordered flowers from me and I said “oh sorry there is no guarantee that these are going to be delivered & there are no refunds.”  I think you would be a little mad too!  Sometimes it seems that everyone is  all about ” the it’s not my fault”.  I really do not live my life that way,  sometimes I get a little frustrated by the lack of accountability that seems to be so common now.

But after all the stress, all is well & the flower business is booming. I have almost sold out of every flower that came in the store today &   it seems that love is definitely in the air! I’m grateful and will really rest easy tonight!

I have to say thanks Fed Ex, and thanks to my fellow florists all around the world who are working round the clock to make your dreams come true.  Flowers are designed by human beings ,  & designers know how much creative brain power it takes.  It’s a sight to  see & appreciate how the beauty unfolds.

In reference to my last post, I really have a whole new appreciation for what the pony express must have gone through to get the mail ( flowers ) delivered.   May all your Valentines dream come true!

Before I became a florist,  I wasn’t very aware about the weather around the globe.  I had know clue just how global weather could wreak such havoc in an industry.  I talked to so many florists around the country today, & everyone of them were worrying & wondering when their flowers were going to arrive?  Mine happen to be coming through a Memphis hub, so who knew that I would need to worry about a foot of snow getting dumped in the region and causing flight delays?  It became pretty apparent today that it didn’t matter what hub your flowers were flying through, there were and still are delays! Blessings to all of my fellow florist friends who may be under just a little stress right at this moment with this weather situation.  http://www.suntimes.com/3624020-417/delivery-package-chicago-company-couple.html

I’ve been punching that tracking number in hourly hoping for a sign that the flowers are at least moving some where!  I was so excited to see that one out of my 17 boxes had hit Seattle at 5 pm this evening. Yeah? I think? Which one of the boxes arrived, the wedding flowers for the Valentines Day wedding?  The flowers for the wedding showcase on Saturday?  Oh and lets not forget the other 16 boxes of roses and spray roses and all kinds of cool flowers I have ordered.   Luckily, I bought from multiple places, so I have flowers galore, but, I surely did have plans for the rest of those flowers :>)  First I will have a talk with the Flower Gods tonight and hopefully my boxes will appear tomorrow.  Then I will plan an after Valentines Day party and celebrate.

I’m pretty sure you won’t find me blogging for the next few nights but I will be burning the midnight oil getting those flowers processed, hydrated and designed for my valued customers. Just like this pretty one for a client’s party.

All White Contemporary

In spite of it all, if I may borrow a term from history~ The ancient Greek historian, Herodutus, produced the unofficial motto of the modern mail service when he wrote about another rapid horse relay postal system operating in ancient Persia.  Herodutus’ familiar words of about 2,500 years ago are:  “Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night, stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”

And after reading the history of the Pony Express, I drew inspiration http://www.buffalobilldays.org/history/express-history.htm

The flowers must go through!  Sorry I took a little liberty with their motto, but you get the general idea!

I watched a fascinating TV series on PBS tonight, http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/tech/making-stuff-cleaner.html and I am getting really excited at this latest research!  I have always found plants interesting and believed that they hold the answers to our future health & welfare in really unimaginable ways!  This could be one of the ways.  If you love innovation and are interested, read more about Artificial leaf technology, it’s interesting!
